Auto Cross

Everyone has a chance to better their times, and those who couldn’t make it in May, come to Marshalltown on June 24th. The format is the same. Practice time will start at 10:00am with timed runs at 1:00pm. Lunch will be on your own and the fee for each driver on the track is $25.00.

Directions: Exit 186 (Industrial Park, S 18th Ave.), go north to Anson St. (2.3 miles), turn right and the facility is on the left at the end of the street. You can not see the track from the street but you will see the sign and the garages.

If you are not sure you want to drive just come up and watch. You can help with various duties that need to be done, such as running the timing watches, flag the drivers, check in drivers, etc. This is a club event and we always welcome participants and helpers.


August Event – Airport Breakfast

We are invited to display our Porsches at the Iowa City Airport.  The 20th Annual Sertoma Airport Breakfast is Sunday, August 20, 2000.  It will be a shine and show for the cars.  Breakfast begins at 7:30 am and there will be other events until 3:00 pm.  To make sure we reserve enough parking places, call John Dyson at 319-335-9843 daytime, or 319-337-5367 evenings and weekends.  You may also e-mail at jmdyson@home.com. Come have breakfast, meet other Porsche owners and enjoy all the other events.

September 23rd Event – Smooth Jazz

The Porsche Club has been invited again to participate in the Smooth Jazz Festival. There will be a shine and show for judging. The staging area is the John Deere Commons in downtown Moline, IL. The time slot for us is 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The judging will begin at 5:00 pm, with trophies announced at 7:00. There will be trophies for oldest car, peoples choice, and judges first, second, and third place.

If you like Jazz and bands that know how to play it, then the Quad Cities Marathon Smooth Jazz Festival is where you’ll want to be. Enjoy great music from 4:00 pm to 10:00 pm on the John Deere Commons. This festival will feature the Robert Jennings Trio and Dougherty & McParland bands. There will also be great food vendors, drinks, and of course the Porsche Car Show.

October 14th - Auto Cross

This is the last Auto Cross of the season, your last chance this year to test your skills at Marshalltown on October 14th. The format is the same. Practice time will start at 10:00am with timed runs at 1:00pm. Lunch will be on your own and the fee for each driver on the track is $25.00.

Take Highway 30 to Marshalltown. Exit 186 (Industrial Park, S 18th Ave.), go north to Anson St. (2.3 miles), Right on Anson Street to Iowa International Raceway at 2002 East Anson Street. You can not see the track from the street but you will see the sign and the garages.

Track facts:

Length: .6 mile or 1 km with 10 turns and elevation change. Width: 26 to 30 feet of asphalt and concrete. Straightaway: 2 - 400 foot straights connected by 80-deg. turn. Permanent restrooms -- handicap accessible. There are bleachers with large viewing area.

Christmas Party, December 9th

Gerry and Leesa Elseman have invited us to their home again this year.  They live at 132 S. Mt. Vernon Dr., Iowa City.  If you need directions call them at 319-337-2157.  Time is 6:00 to 9:00pm.  Bring a pot of your favorite soup, dessert, or bread.  Drinks and table service will be provided.  Last years party was great fun so come join us get into the spirit of the holiday season.

Chicago Auto Show Bus Trip

Saturday, February 10

The bus will depart from Tri-State Tours at 32nd Street and 1st Avenue at 7:30 AM.  Be there by 7:15 AM.

March Event – European Motors

On March 24th we are invited to European Motors Open House, 5405 Center Point Rd. NE, Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  They will be open to our group only, at 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Stop in for a treat and see the exotic cars Jeff Wilkins has on sale. There will be a non-maintenance tech session.  Come and see what is happening at European Motors and visit with other club members.

April Event – A Driving Day

On Sunday, April 22nd, there will be a Porsche Drive.  This had previously been advertised as a Rally.  We don’t want to keep anti-Rally fans away, so it will primarily be a drive.  To participate the group will meet in the Hartwig Motors (629 S. Riverside Drive) south car lot, next to Bruegger’s Bagels, at 10:00am.

Hartwig’s in on Riverside Drive, south of the railroad underpass, in Iowa City.  This on highway 6 & 1.  There are several ways to get there.  

From the south:  Highway 218 to the Highway 1 exit, turn right onto Highway 1.  

From the east:  Exit I 80- at the Highway 1 exit, turn left and follow the highway through town.  It will be on you right, after you have crossed the river and turned left.  

From the west:  take Highway 218 south, exit the Highway 1 exit, turn left onto Highway 1.
