Inaugural CCCR Autocross November 1st! by Greg Braun

Central California Coast Region is putting on an Autocross!!   That’s Great!

What’s an Autocross!?

Autocross is the sport of trying to navigate your car through a defined course of pylons faster than your competition.  Courses are typically set up in large parking lots or on airfields using soft orange traffic pylons which will not damage your car.  Events are run at speeds usually between 40-65 MPH, usually in 2nd gear. In short, an Autocross is a "performance driving event" that is a safe, inexpensive way to learn how to drive your Porsche at its limits. You not only learn how to handle your car at speeds that you drive daily, but you also:

§         Learn the limits of your car's brakes

§         Learn correct seating, hand, and feet positions

Finally, Autocross is a social gathering and LOTS OF FUN!!!  For more info on auto-crossing go to the PCA National Website: http://www.pca.org/autox

Who can participate and do I need previous experience or to attend a school first??
This event is open to all CCCR members’ 18 years of age on up, however we are limited to the first 60 drivers, up to 3 drivers per car.  No prior experience is necessary. This is the ideal event for first-timers, just show up to your first event.

Where Is It? What does It Cost? Do I need to pre-register?
Paso Robles Airport.  Directions are on the web: http://www.prcity.com/government/departments/publicworks/airport The cost is $40.00 per driver and $5 per person for the post event Pizza party at the Wine Country RV Clubhouse right down the street.

Yes, you must pre-register.   Your registration and entry fee must be received by October 7th

What Time Should I Show Up?
Event Check-in is open from 7:00AM-8:30AM

What Do I Need To Get Ready?. What Should I Bring?

a.       Current PCA membership card

b.       Your Porsche should be in good mechanical condition. No cord showing on tires. Brakes in good condition. No loose wheel bearings. (Grab the top of your wheel and tug in and out. There should be minimal play.) No parts about ready to fall off. Fill with oil and inflate tires according to your owner's manual. Try to show up with 3/8 tank gas-more is okay, but it's extra weight.

c.       You need a SA95 or newer helmet.

d.       Wear comfortable clothes and shoes suitable for driving/walking/running. Bring food and drink (lots of water). A hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses are advisable as it's usually pretty sunny and warm toward mid-day.

Do I need a rollbar or 5 point seatbelts? Will I hurt my car? Is it dangerous?
No.
Your Porsche is good to run an Autocross just as it came from the factory. No, Porsches were engineered to be driven  aggressively. Your car has a racing heritage and if you listen, it is begging you to take it autocrossing. The courses are laid out so they do not come close to light poles and other immovable objects. You will put wear on tires and brake pads faster than mormal, but the wear from a single autocross is not significant. Autocross is about as dangerous as crossing a busy street.

Is there a Post Event get together?

Yes! There will be a pizza get together after the event at the Wine Country RV Park right down the street from the airport.  Please indicate if you’d like to participate on your registration form.  It will be a great way to relax, have some pizza and share your best run with your competition!!  Wine Country RV Park is on the web at:  http://www.winecountryrvresort.com

Mail your check to: Tricia Braun - Autocross Registrar, 905 Cascada Lane, Nipomo, CA 93444-9518  before October 7th.
