- As I sit here writing this message,
I am still waiting for my car repairs to be done so I can go
pick it up...in Livingston! Yes, ladies and gentleman, my car
died on the way to the Bozeman meeting in April. As a group
of us were heading down the highway at a nice clip, my car started
overheating. Fred, who was behind me at the time, saw a puff
of smoke and thought maybe it was the oil. We stopped, checked
the oil and it was indeed two quarts low. So, Shirley Ellis agreed
to turn back and go into town (Big Timber) and pick up a couple
of quarts. Some time later, we were all back on the road moving
at an even faster clip. But, I noticed that the temperature gauge
was not going down but in fact, was going up! At that point I
decided to pull off at the first Livingston exit where the car
started steaming. Low and behold it sprang a leak. To make a
long story short, the party in Bozeman went on without me and
Art. The tow truck driver took us to what turned out to be the
best foreign car repair shop in the area, Larrys Foreign
Car Service. He was only about a mile from where the car had
stopped. Diagnosis, new radiator, thermostat, and replace head
gasket, cylinder head resurfaced and cleaned, replace timing
belt, replace fuel filter and plugs, and replace motor mounts,
blah, blah, blah. Its been a fun three weeks taking the
bus to work
.
- On to other business, many of the hotel
rooms in Red Lodge are going fast for the 30th Anniversary Charter
Dinner on July 26th. If you havent made your reservations,
better do it now.
- The Pacific NW Region is extending
an invitation to all of Zone 6 to come out and join them for
an autocross event in Packwood Washington on July 5, 2008.
-
- First, some background. The site is
on one of Hampton Mills lots. They are a large lumber company
operating south of Mt. Rainier. There are 3 acres of indoor
parking/pit area and 15 acres of beautiful blacktop.
-
- The landscape is breathtaking and the
local community is very enthusiastic and supportive. NWR-SCCA
has been using this site for the past few years. As an autocross
venue, it is incredible. The NW Region have been wanting to
gain access to this site for some time, with the intent of trying
a multi regional autocross challenge. They were tentatively
given the weekend of July 4-6 at the end of last year and were
just recently granted access. The details of the event are still
in process, as they would like to see more added to the weekend
if possible. As it stands now, the autocross will take place
on Saturday July 5. This will be an all day event, hopefully
with a dinner/social/awards party in the evening. Please check
their website for more details and updates: PCA/PNWR. http://www.pnwr.org Also visit Destination Packwood http://www.destinationpackwood.com/index.cfm for more info on the area and lodging/accommodations
