The first Porsche
was produced in 1948 in the small town of Gmünd, Austria. Their first
model was designated 356/1, and was an open-topped, mid engined roadster.
There were roughly 50 more produced over the next year and a half, until
Porsche moved into their current home in Stuttgart, Germany, in 1951. The
356 lasted until the early 1960's, when their 2nd model, the 911, appeared.
Since then, Porsche has used 900 series #'s to identify their models. To
date, there have been 12 production types, listed below in the table.
These are only the production models, racing, special editions and prototypes
have yet to be discussed.
